Perfect Steamed Rice (No Rice Cooker)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain rice
  • 2 cups water
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the rice in a sieve and rinse under cold water until the water runs mostly clear.
  2. Add the rice and 2 cups of water to a saucepan.
  3. Add a small pinch of salt if desired.
  4. Bring the pan to a gentle boil.

Cooking

  1. Once boiling, reduce heat to low.
  2. Cover the pan with a lid.
  3. Simmer for 10–12 minutes until the water is absorbed.

Resting

  1. Turn off the heat and leave the lid on for 5 minutes.
  2. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Do not stir the rice while cooking.
  • Keeping the lid on traps steam and cooks the rice evenly.
  • Works best with long grain or basmati rice.
  • Serve with dishes like Sweet and Sour Chicken.
